LG Ductless Mini Split Heat Pump

The LG ductless heat pump is one of our favourite ductless mini split models. We’re going to share the top 5 reasons why the LG heat pump has been one of goto units for HRM homeowners.

For a quick overview of the unit take two minutes and watch the video above. It covers the standard features and gives you a close up look at the actual indoor and outdoor units of this heat pump.

#1 Efficiency Rating

There are two primary heat pump ratings used to compare different models and brands.

They are:

  • HSPF (heating seasonal performance factor)
  • SEER (seasonal energy efficiency ratio)

We advise readers of our heat pump guide and those who watch our education video series to look for systems with a SEER over 20 and an HSPF above 10.

The LG unit fits this criteria perfectly with an HSPF of 13 and a SEER rating of 25.5.

The higher each of these ratings is the more efficiently the heat pump can move heat from outdoor ambient air into your home.

#2 Operating Temperature

At one time air-to-air heat pumps worked to only about –5 degrees celsius. That is no longer the case today with most systems operating until at least –15.

The downfall of only operating to –15 is during January and February it will get colder than that in HRM. The LG heat pump operates down to –25 degrees celsius.

None of our customers this winter experienced any issue with their heat pumps shutting off due to outdoor temperature.

#3 Air Circulation

Normally a 12,000 BTU heat pump, which the prestige is, will cover 700–800 square feet.

Thanks to the extremely high air circulation rating on this model (over 500 cubic feet per minute) we’ve successfully installed these in up to 1000 square foot spaces.

If the space is smaller than 1000 square feet than the high air circulation rating means the room will be either cooled or warmed faster.

#4 Noise Level

Home owners are most often concerned with the efficiency ratings of a heat pump. We always advise homeowners to take this into consideration.

Why?

If the noise level is too loud for your comfort than it won’t be something you’re going to want to use very often.

When in low fan mode the indoor unit of the LG operates at approximately 20db. This is about the same noise level as a library. Outdoor units typically operate at about 50db.
